Jamie Heathcote
Maths Consultant
I have been an Independent Maths Consultant for 15 years working mainly in Primary schools. I work as a Lead Trainer for the Every Child Counts maths interventions, an Evidence Lead in Education, a maths researcher and Lead Trainer for the University of Oxford, a facilitator for the NPQ in Leading Primary Maths and as a work group lead for maths hubs.
I also support schools by delivering CPD, planning with teachers, developing subject knowledge and models of interaction with TAs and supporting Maths subject leads in implementing effective change across schools.
My passion is the use of manipulatives to support deep, conceptual understanding and creating the love of maths in schools.

I celebrate my 30th year in education this year! I have developed the Teaching Sequence for Writing over a number of years and am passionate about improving outcomes in writing for all children. I am particularly experienced in working with pupils who face challenging circumstances and with children for whom English is an additional language.
I have worked with the National Literacy Trust for a number of years and have written and delivered the DfE Priority Literacy programme to schools in Nottingham City - using the Teaching Sequence for Writing to improve attainment and pupils' confidence in writing. I am working closely in schools to develop a 5 step programme to teach transcription effectively and this is proving to be highly effective. The new Writing Framework (July 2025) endorses all of my work and I am excited to further support more schools to develop the 'we can write' culture.
